All my life I have known people who “go” to church. Now don’t get me wrong, going to church is a GOOD thing. The Bible says in the New Testament, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” – Hebrews 10:25 | KJV. So you won’t get an argument out of me by “GOING” to church.
The problem isn’t “going” to church – it’s everywhere else we go after we’ve “BEEN” in church.
In the music business, experts say the average person has to hear a song eight times before they are motivated to purchase the song. I would expect that the average person has to hear the Gospel eight times as well before they are ready to respond to it. “Going” to church increases the chances for an individual to hear and then come to faith. “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” – Romans 10:17 | KJV
So what happens when we have been motivated to respond after hearing the Word of GOD?
First, we have to be converted. “Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.” – Psalm 51:13 | KJV
This does not mean we will automatically be perfect, but there WILL be a process of being taught or retrained, so that our habits are conformed to GOD’S ways.
Unfortunately, many new believers who hear the Word of GOD and accept JESUS stop right there. They do not allow the HOLY SPIRIT, the third part of the GODHEAD, to complete the conversion process. Most don’t even realize that each part of the Trinity, by design, has a specific authority. GOD the FATHER has the plan, JESUS the SON fulfilled the plan, and the HOLY GHOST the SPIRIT guides us after receiving or responding to the truth.
Second, we have to deny ourselves. “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” – Matthew 16:24 | KJV
When I was younger, I wanted to be a country music singer. After hearing the Word of GOD, I responded to the truth of the Word that I needed a Saviour. I had to deny the pleasures I enjoyed that GOD said I had to stay away from and I had to allow HIM to teach me to be the man HE wants me to be. The Bible says “He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.” – Matthew 10:39 | KJV
“Going” to church is not doing you a bit of good if you are “going” to continue living in sin. We have to be converted and deny ourselves – then we will “BE” the church, no matter where we are going.
It Is Written!

I had been attending Rock Pike Baptist Church for a little over a year when I came face to face with the world. Having a severe head and knee injury I felt alone and thinking how will I survive. Friends and RPBC members came to my side to assist me. Many nights went by that I couldn’t sleep without screaming all night. It was after a talk with John that I dug deep into my Bible. Reading night and day praying night and day. I began to feel the presents of spirit around me, connecting with me and letting me know he is always with me. I began to look back on my life at the injuries and different occurrences that have happened to me. I felt ashamed that I never realized God was watching over me and has something special for me to do in time. So when asked, I tell the story of how my concussion was a good thing, it lead me to trust and believe in God and his son Jesus Christ.

Really never thought of it the way you put it. I gave myself to Jesus about 2 years ago kneeling down in my yard with a razor in my hand. That night changed my life for the best. He not only stopped there he was with me 6 months ago when I had my heart attack then again with me on Friday. What I mean I know he and they has always been with me but to feel him close to you to comfort you is a blessing. But the way you put God the father Jesus the son Ghost the Spirit makes more since now to me. I read all you put on FB and I love it. Thank you for sharing God’s word and uplifting people the way you do.
